[texts]A Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer System for UltraLow-Emission Combustor Exhaust Studies - Brabbs, Theodore A.
A gas chromatograph (GC)/mass spectrometer (MS) system that allows the speciation of unburnt hydrocarbons in the combustor exhaust has been developed at the NASA Lewis Research Center. Combustion gas samples are withdrawn through a water-cooled sampling probe which, when not in use, is protected from contamination by a high-pressure nitrogen purge. The sample line and its connecting lines, filters, and valves are all ultraclean and are heated to avoid condensation...

[texts]No Compton Reflection In a Chandra/RXTE Observation of Mkn 509: Implications for the Fe-K Line Emission From Accreting X-Ray Sources - Yaqoob, Tahir
We report the results of simultaneous Chandra and RXTE observations of the Seyfert 1 galaxy Mkn 509. We deconvolve the broad and narrow Fe-K emission-line components for which we measure rest-frame equivalent widths of 119/-18 eV and 57/-13 eV respectively. The broad line has a FWHM of 57,600((sup 14,400)(sub -21,000)) km/s and the narrow line is unresolved, with an upper limit on the FWHM of 4,940 km/s...

[texts]Flight assessment of an atmospheric turbulence measurement system with emphasis on long wavelengths - Rhyne, R. H
A flight assessment has been made of a system for measuring the three components of atmospheric turbulence in the frequency range associated with airplane motions (0 to approximately 0.5 Hz). Results of the assessment indicate acceptable accuracy of the resulting time histories and power spectra. Small residual errors at the airplane short period and Dutch roll frequencies (0.5 and 0.25 Hz, respectively), as determined from in-flight maneuvers in smooth air, would not be detectable on the power ...

[texts]Structure of the Seyfert broad line region and absorption region of NGC 4151 - Bromage, G. E.
The Seyfert nucleus of NGC 4151 was monitored for six years, including periods of intensive study of the complex variations in the ultraviolet spectra with IUE. Important IUE results relating to the broad line region (BLR) and its physical conditions are reviewed herein. Active galactic nuclei like NGC 4151 are studied to derive detailed constraints on radiation mechanisms and physical conditions in the emission region, and hence also constraints on possible central power sources...

This paper reports Part I of a two part effort, that is intended to delineate the relationship between reliability and fault tolerant control in a quantitative manner. Reliability analysis of fault-tolerant control systems is performed using Markov models. Reliability properties, peculiar to fault-tolerant control systems are emphasized. As a consequence, coverage of failures through redundancy management can be severely limited...

Error data obtained from two different software development environments are compared. To obtain data that was complete, accurate, and meaningful, a goal-directed data collection methodology was used. Changes made to software were monitored concurrently with its development. Similarities common to both environments are included: (1) the principal error was in the design and implementation of single routines; (2) few errors were the result of changes, required more than one attempt to correct, an...
